Union Minister-CP Joshi has been appointed as the new Minister for Railways, after Trinamool Congress leader-Mukul Roy resigned as the Railway Minister.

As advised by the Prime Minister of India, the President has directed that CP Joshi, Minister of Road Transport and Highways shall be assigned the additional charge of the Ministry of Railways, stated a press communiqué from the Presidents Secretariat.

According to the press statement that was released on 22 September 2012, the President of India, apart from Mukul Roy, has also accepted the resignation of five other Trinamool Congress ministers and members of the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect.
