United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate Hamid Ansari has been sworn as the 14th vice president of India on 11 August 2012. This is Ansari's second term as vice president.

Ansari was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and several union cabinet ministers, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) partners and leaders from other political parties.

Ansari defeated NDA's Jaswant Singh by a margin of 490-238 votes. The vice-president is elected by the members of an electoral college comprising members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
