Chidambarm appointed as new FM, Shinde becomes Home Minister

Sushil Kumar Shinde, currently Minister of Power has been appointed as the new Home Minister. Meanwhile, P Chidambaram, current Home Minister has been appointed asthe Finance Minister.

Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has also directed that Shri M. Veerappa Moily, Minister of Corporate Affairs will be assigned additional charge of the Ministry of Power.

The reshuffle took place in the wake of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee moving to Rashtrapati Bhavan as the President.

After Mukherjee's exit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had been holding the charge of Finance Ministry.

P Chidambaram was the finance minister till late 2008, but was moved to the Home Ministry in November 2008 in the wake of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
