The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has unanimously declared Jaswant Singh, a former minister for foreign affairs and finance as its candidate for the Vice-Presidential election 2012.

The decision to field Jaswant Singh was taken in a meeting of the NDA at senior BJP leader LK Advani's residence yesterday, 16 July 2012. Singh will contest against Congress led UPA's nominee and incumbent vice-president Amid Ansari in the upcoming vice-presidential election that is going to take place on 7 August 2012.
