Sitarganj By-Poll: Counting of votes begins

The counting of votes has begun for the Sitarganj by-election that was held in the state of Uttarakhand last Sunday, 8 July 2012 to decide the fate of the chief minister, who must win the election to continue in office.

Uttarakhand's incumbent Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, after the first round of counting, according to latest reports, is leading the race with a majority of nearly 7500 votes over his nearest Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) rival-Prakash Pant.
