Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned on Tuesday, 8 May 2012 with the opposition parties demanding a probe and a reply from the government on the alleged role of Home Minister P Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs staged protests demanding suspension of question hour to discuss the issue. The Speaker-Meira Kumar first tried to restore peace in the house but as the MPs intensified their protests she adjourned the house till noon.

P Chidambaram is alleged to have delayed permission for the sale of Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis in 2006 when he was finance minister so that his son would be financially benefited. However, the government defending P Chidambaram had earlier denied the allegations.
