EC announced schedule for by-elections to the Nellore Lok Sabha seat and in 28 Assembly constituencies in 10 States, most of them in Andhra Pradesh

EC to hold by-elections in 10 states in June

The Election Commission (EC) of India has released the schedule for by-elections to fill casual vacancies in assembly constituencies in different states.

After taking into consideration various factors like festivals, electoral rolls etc, the commission has decided to hold by elections to fill the vacancies in the assembly or parliamentary constituencies in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Madya Pradesh, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Goa.

Polling for the Neyyattinkara assembly constituency in Kerala and Cortalim in Goa will take place on 2 June 2012 and the counting of votes will be done on 15 June 2012. The notifications for the same will be issued on 9 May 2012.

Polling for assembly constituencies-Maheshwar (SC) in Madya Pradesh, Nalchar (SC) in Tripura, Daspur and Bankura in West Bengal, Mant in UP, Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu, Kaij (SC) in Maharshtra and Hatia in Jharkhand will take place on 12 June 2012.

Also, the by-elections for the Nellore Parliamentary Constituency and for assembly constituencies-Tirupati, Allagadda, Rajampet, Rayachoti, Parkal, Ongole, Narasannapeta, Payakaraopet (SC), Anantapur Urban, Yemmiganur, Rayadurg, Kodur (SC), Udayagiri, Narasapuram, Prathipadu (SC), Ramachandrapuram, Macherla, Polavaram (ST) all in Andra Pradesh will also take place on 12 June 2012.

The notification for the 12 June 2012 by-elections will be issued on Friday, 18 May 2012 and the votes will be counted on Friday, 15 June 2012
