The Election Commission (EC) of India has decided to hold Biennial Elections to the State Legislative Councils of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh by the Members of the Legislative Assemblies (by MLAs).

The biennial elections are being held as the term of office of 11 members of State Legislative Councils of Bihar and 13 members of State Legislative Councils of Uttar Pradesh elected by MLAs is going to expire on their retirement on 6 and 5 May 2012, respectively.

The notification for the same will be issued on 9 April 2012, while the polling will be held on 26 April 2012, Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm. The counting of votes will also be held on the same day at 5 pm.
