EC announces By-election to the Council of States from Uttar Pradesh

The Election Commission (EC) of India has decided to hold a by-election to the Council of States from Uttar Pradesh to fill up a casual vacancy.

The casual vacancy occurred due to the resignation of a sitting member Rashid Masood on 9 March 2012, whose term of office is expiring on 4 July 2016.

The notification will be issued on 9 April 2012 and the polling will be held on 26 April 2012 from 9 am to 4 pm. The counting of votes will also be held on the same day at 5 pm.
