Budget 2012-13: TN govt proposes 14.5% tax on liquor

The Tamil Nadu government has proposed 14.5% tax on liquor as part of efforts to generate Rs 1500 crore revenue. However, there is no tax on alcohol from TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation).

Tamil Nadu state Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, presented the 2012-13 budget in the assembly, today, 26 March 2011.

According to the budget estimates for 2012-13, Revenue receipts are projected at Rs 100589.92 crore and the revenue expenditure was estimated as Rs 98213.85 crore. The government's total debt at the end of next fiscal at Rs 135060.47 crore, 19.6% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Tamil Nadu.
