Dinesh Trivedi resigns as Union Railway Minister

After many days of speculations, Dinesh Trivedi resigned as the Union Railway Minister on Sunday, 18 March 2012. He is likely to be replaced by Minister of State for Shipping-Mukul Roy.

The first train passenger fares hike in the last eight years that was announced by Dinesh in the Union Budget 2012-13 witnessed lots of opposition even from within his party, the Mamta Banerjee headed Trinamool Congress. Mamta Banerjee demanded the resignation of Dinesh Trivedi after he proposed the hike of train fares across the board.
