Prakash Singh Badal will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 14 March 2012 for a record fifth time. Ending all speculations, on Thursday, 8 March 2012, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) party headed by its President Sukhbir Singh Badal unanimously chose Prakash Singh Badal as the leader of their legislature party.

Prakash Singh Badal will head the SAD-BJP coalition government in Punjab that retained its power by winning the recently held assembly election by bagging a comfortable majority with 68 seats in the 117-member Punjab assembly.
