SAD-BJP retains power in Punjab

The ruling Shiromani Akal Dal(SAD)-Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has created history in Punjab by retaining power in Punjab assembly.

In the Punjab assembly elections 2012, the SAD-BJP alliance won 68 seats, while Congress won 46 seats. The Others won three seats as results were declared for all 117 seats in Punjab Assembly.

Voting was held in the state on 30 January 2012. 1,078 candidates were in the fray, including 93 women and 417 independents. Punjab recorded a all time high voting percentage of 78% in assembly polls in the state.
