SAD-BJP leading Punjab, tight fight between Congress and BJP in Uttarakhand and in Goa, while Congress set to retain power in Manipur.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) is emerging as the single largest party in Uttar Pradesh, leading in 184 of the total 403 seats, while the ruling Bhartiya Samaj Party (BSP) was leading in 95 seats followed by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, which are leading in 45 and 49 seats respectively.
In Punjab, the Shiromoni Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP combination was leading in 57 seats, trailed by Congress in 46. Punjab has a 117 seat Assembly.
Congress was ahead leading in 28 seats in Uttarakhand, while the ruling BJP was close behind leading in 26 seats out of the total 70 seats.
In the 60-member Manipur Assembly, the Congress is way ahead leading in 12 seats. In Goa, the BJP has won 12 seats and was leading 4 seats, while Congress has won 5 seats and was leading in 3 seats. Goa has a 40-seat assembly.
Counting of votes in the five states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa began at 8 am today, 6 March 2012. Complete results of these elections will come in by today evening.
