The term of office of 58 members of the Rajya Sabha elected from 15 states is due to expire on their retirement in April 2012

The Election Commission (EC) of India has announced the schedule for biennial elections to the Council of States to fill the seats of members retiring in April 2012. The term of office of 58 members of the Rajya Sabha elected from 15 states is due to expire on their retirement in April 2012.

Announcing the schedule for filling up vacancies in the Rajya Sabha, the EC said that the notifications would be issued on 12 March 2012 and the last date for filing of nominations is 19 March 2012 while that for withdrawal is 22 March 2012. Polling would be held on 30 March 2012.

The tenure of 58 members from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Rajasthan is expiring in the month of April.
