Fifth phase of polling begins in UP

The fifth phase of polling for Uttar Pradesh's 49 assembly constituencies started at 7 am today, 23 February 2012 amidst tight security.

More than 1.56 crore electorate are expected to decide the fate of 829 candidates in the fray. The polling is being held in 17267 polling stations spread across 13 districts-Firozabad, Kanshiram Nagar, Etah, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Ramabainagar, Kanpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba.

The fifth phase of polling would decide the fate of many prominent politicians including Bhartiya Janata Party leader-Uma Bharti, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly-Shivpal Singh and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.
