16-Feb-2012, 09:55

The third phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh that was held yesterday, 15 February 2012 has witnessed about 57% voter turn out. The polls were held for 56 constituencies spread across 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The polling across the 18374 booths began on a sluggish note yesterday morning but picked up as the day progressed. However, the voter's turnout in the third phase was much lower than the first and second phase that witnessed 63% and 59% voter turnout, respectively but was much higher than the 42% voter turn out recorded in this phase in 2007 assembly elections.

The third phase of polling decided the fate of 1018 candidates in the fray. The next fourth phase of polling for Uttar Pradesh's 56 assembly constituencies will be held on 19 February 2012.
