UP elections: 62% voter turnout in first phase

The first phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh witnessed an impressive 62% voter out. The first of the seven-phased polling for Uttar Pradesh's 55 assembly constituencies was held yesterday, 9 February 2012.

The polling for the first phase started on a dull note because of bad weather in major parts of the state, however the polling picked up later when the weather became normal. There was also not any incident of violence reported in yesterday's elections.

The polling was spread over 10 districts-Sitapur, Barabanki, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Siddharth Nagar and Basti districts and was held under tight security.
