Punjab recorded more than 77% polling, while Uttarakhand reported about 70% polling in the 2012 assembly elections
Both Punjab and Uttarakhand recorded higher turnout of voters in the 2012 assembly elections that was held yesterday, 30 January 2012.
In the 117 assembly constituencies that went on polls yesterday, Punjab recorded more than 77% polling with some stray incidents of violence. The voting took place amidst heavy security in sensitive districts such as Amritsar, Muktsar, Kaputhala and Bathinda.
Uttarakhand reported about 70% polling in the yesterday's election much higher than 59% recorded in the 2007 state polls. In the single phased polling, voting took place across 9806 polling stations in 70 assembly constituencies.
