The restrictions would be lifted after the completion of the election process in the five states
The Election Commission (EC) of India has stalled the implementation of the 4.5% sub quota for minorities with in the 27% OBC quota that was announced by the Central government recently, in the five election bound states.
The EC has asked the UPA government not to implement the 4.5% sub quota reservation for minorities in the five states-Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur. As per the mode of conduct rules of the elections, the EC has ordered this restriction. The commission has also cited that the restrictions would be lifted after the completion of the election process in the five states.
The General Election 2012 for the five states is scheduled to begin from 28 January 2012 and will end on 3 March 2012. The counting of votes will held on 6 March 2012.
