Willie Walsh to lead IndiGo as CEO in 2026, accelerating international expansion

InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the parent company of IndiGo, announced that Willie Walsh has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective August 3, 2026, as previously announced in March 2026. Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo, stated Walsh’s extensive experience will be instrumental in accelerating the airline’s international expansion strategy and contributing to the development of the Indian aviation sector, while Walsh noted immense opportunities for IndiGo in India’s fast-growing aviation market. Walsh, who previously held leadership positions at Aer Lingus, British Airways, International Airlines Group, and IATA, will focus on accelerating global growth, driving operational excellence, and enhancing customer experience for IndiGo, which operates a fleet of over 430 aircraft and connects 95 domestic and 40 international destinations.
