Stocks rise as markets eye Iran conflict resolution

U.S. Stocks Hit New Record High Amid Iran War Ceasefire Hopes
20-Apr-2026, 09:23
The US stocks moved further into record territory Friday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq locking in a third consecutive record close. Iran said the Strait of Hormuz would stay open to shipping amid a Lebanon ceasefire, sending oil prices tumbling. For the week, the S&P 500 surged 4.53%, the Nasdaq jumped 6.84%, and the Dow added 3.2%. The US stocks have surged over 10% since late March lows, fueled by optimism for an end to the war or measures to avoid a global economic meltdown. WTI crude oil saw a sharp slide to around one and half month low on Friday following news that Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.
